TMS Therapy in Inglewood, CA
Transcranial magnetic stimulation is a non-invasive, drug-free procedure used to treat Major Depressive Disorder in eligible adults. Here's how it works, who it may suit, and what a session is actually like — in plain language.
What TMS is
TMS stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. A small coil rests against the scalp and delivers focused magnetic pulses to regions of the brain involved in mood regulation. Those pulses gently encourage nerve cells in that area to become more active.
Nothing is implanted and nothing enters your bloodstream from the procedure itself. You stay awake and alert the whole time, and you can drive yourself home afterward.
What happens during a course of treatment
Your first appointment is a consultation and clinical review. If TMS is appropriate, your provider maps the treatment area and determines the right stimulation level for you. From there, treatment happens in a series of short sessions over several weeks.
- You sit in a comfortable chair, fully awake
- You hear a clicking sound and feel a light tapping on the scalp
- Sessions typically run under 30 minutes
- No anesthesia and no sedation
- No systemic medication exposure from the procedure
- You walk in and walk out — no recovery time
More on the science: how TMS works.
Who may qualify
Eligibility is always determined through a clinical evaluation, not a website. That said, people who come to us for TMS often share some of the following.
- An adult diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder
- Antidepressant medication that hasn't produced satisfactory improvement in the current episode
- Difficult side effects from medication
- A preference for a drug-free, non-invasive option
- A willingness to attend a series of short sessions
Certain metal implants, implanted devices, and seizure history can make TMS unsafe. Safety screening is part of every evaluation. See contraindications and safety screening.
EXOMIND technology
We use the EXOMIND device, which delivers focused ExoTMS pulses through a coil positioned over the treatment area.
Under 30 minutes
Sessions are short enough to fit around work or school, with no downtime built in around them.
Screened for safety
Every candidate is screened for implants, devices, seizure history, and other factors before treatment.
Targeted, not systemic
Stimulation is delivered to a mapped region of the brain rather than circulating through the whole body.
Provider-led evaluation
Your evaluation is conducted by Robin Riley-Garner, PA-C, who reviews your history before any treatment plan is made.
A clear consultation
You leave the consultation understanding your options, the schedule, and the cost or coverage picture.

In the United States, EXOMIND is intended for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder in adult patients who have failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from prior antidepressant medication in the current episode. Any use outside of that indication is considered off-label and is offered on a cash-pay basis, based on provider judgment and emerging research. Off-label uses are not FDA-cleared indications. Individual results vary. TMS is not a cure, and no outcome is guaranteed. This page is patient education, not medical advice.
